Mount Airy Casino Resort, situated in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, may have opened a few years ago, but it has a new story to tell today. Formerly the Mount Airy Lodge, a more than $400 million expansion in 2007 has transformed the property—and the recent approval for table games will take it even further.
The resort’s new identity brings a new level of competition to properties from Pennsylvania to Atlantic City and New York. Its reinvention includes the opening of an unrivalled casino, boasting exquisite fine dining in five restaurants, elegant guest accommodations and a state-of-the-art spa and fitness center. Poker, blackjack and other table games are expected to be in place by this summer.
“We are thrilled with the arrival of table games, as we usher in a new era at Mount Airy,” George Toth, president and CEO of Mount Airy Casino Resort, commented. “The introduction of table games coupled with the re-creation of Mount Airy Casino Resort presents an unrivalled experience. We offer guests incomparable casino gaming in a breathtaking setting. The new Mount Airy Casino Resort boasts an ambiance our competitors simply can’t match.”
Principal Louis DeNaples’ vision was to have something for all his children to work on together, and now his eldest daughter Lisa DeNaples has been named owner and managing trustee.
“The former Mount Airy Lodge was a landmark facility for northeast Pennsylvania,” Lisa DeNaples said. “A memorable moment was the rebirth and revitalization of a brand new facility that would promote a return of tourism to a new level and an ability to offer local jobs and work with local vendors.”
No doubt, the new property is beautiful. Its exterior boasts a picturesque, gabled roof line, and two flanking hotel wings embrace the green and spacious drive in with lush landscaping, period lighting and central foundation.
The focal point is the porte cochere, with stone and timber frames and a translucent roof to protect guests’ arrival while allowing soft light in when entering the resort.
Inside, the grand entrance features a three-story waterfall in the lobby. “This stone and wood-walled reception area features two richly furnished lounges that are each focused on massively scaled fireplaces, complete with limestone mantelpieces and overscaled oil paintings of the Pocono Mountain landscape,” DeNaples explained. And the lobby’s warm colors invoke an inviting atmosphere and sense of welcoming to the resort.
Of the resort’s five restaurants, two have a personal connection to the DeNaples family. Le Sorelle Cucina, its Italian eatery, means “The Sisters’ Kitchen” and is named for the five DeNaples daughters. Inside, a painting of five women strolling on a European cobblestone street is based on a photo of DeNaples’ daughters. Betty’s Diner is named after DeNaples’ wife, BettyAnn, and plays host to a ‘50s theme.
On the vibrant casino floor, a bright, circular glass cocktail bar serves as the center of the gaming area. The bar is lit from within and has slot machines embedded in the surface.
The casino houses 2,500 slot machines—a mix of reel-spinning machines and the latest themed video slots, as well as progressive jackpots. Also present are the latest video poker, blackjack with virtual dealers and roulette games.
The current plan is to have 56 table games—blackjack, roulette, craps and mini baccarat—on the main floor, with four high-end tables on the third floor overlooking the lake and 12 poker tables overlooking the floor.
The hotel tower, opened in 2008, has 188 rooms and 26 suites. “Warm, luxurious and very inviting, the typical guest room at Mount Airy Casino Resort is spacious and well appointed and are distinguished through the colors and patterns of spring, summer, winter and fall,” Lisa DeNaples noted.
The rooms feature rich crown moldings and chair rails, cherry wood furnishings and craftsman-style details. Each guest room contains original artwork with highlights of the flora and fauna of the nearby, beautiful Pocono Mountains. All feature local artists’ work.
The property also recently announced its SmartPlay™ feature exclusive to Mount Airy Casino Resort. The program is based on guests’ Resort Dollar bank, affording players customized rewards in gaming and amenities.
With table games on the way and the beautiful expansion, Mount Airy Casino Resort is sharing its story of a property gone through a “game changer,” ready to enter into a different league.
