IGT (International Game Technology)

International Game Technology is a large company focused on manufacturing electronic machines and technology for gambling applications. The company was founded in 1951 and is often referred to as IGT for short. Though it is now a massive multi-national company with offices all over the world, IGT originally started out as a small business which didn’t start gaining notoriety until they invented video poker in the mid-1970’s.

International Game Technology (IGT) is a massive end-to-end online and offline gaming company that is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. The company boasts over 12,000 employees in 100 countries; the result of three major gambling companies – Lottomatica, GTECH, and IGT – merging over the years.

These companies were best known for land-based lottery and real money casino products, boasting considerable market share in North America and Italy. IGT maintains a strong position in the online casino world as well. With hundreds of online slots and video poker games on offer, they successfully translate their popular land-based slots and video poker games into online and mobile versions.

In 1981, as the popularity of their slot games and video poker machines began gaining popularity, IGT went public. They remain a publicly traded company to this day on the NYSE under the symbol: IGT.
The company now manufactures and distributes a wide range of slot games alongside their iconic Game King video poker machines.

Many of the games produced by IGT are the most well known in the entire world. It all started with one simple game; Jacks or Better video poker. Shortly thereafter, Deuces Wild and Joker Poker were added to Game King machines. Today, most of the video poker machines you’ll come across on the casino floor at a casino bar are manufactured by IGT.

International Game Technology enjoys the well-deserved reputation of being a responsible and trustworthy supplier of offline and online games, and it supports a corporate culture of sustainability and responsibility. IGT’s companies have been pioneers in their respective markets, and IGT still invests heavily in gaming research and development, spending over $300 million a year in R&D efforts.

IGT Slot Games

In addition to video poker, IGT is also a major manufacturer and distributor of slot machines. The company owns a variety of the world’s most popular slots titles, including the entire line of Wheel of Fortune slot machines, which were acquired by IGT when the company took over Anchor Gaming in 2001. Some of other popular titles manufactured by IGT include Top Dollar, TMZ, Willy Wonka and the classic Triple Double Diamond – just to name a few.

IGT’s iconic slot machines that dominate casino floors have been transformed into IGT Interactive (PlayAnywhere) versions for online casino players. Blockbuster casino slot games like Wheel of Fortune and Sex in the City are available online.

Other IGT online slots titles include an extensive catalog of branded games, such as Ghostbusters, Jeopardy, Star Trek, Monopoly, House of Cards, $100,000 Pyramid, and Family Guy. Well-known non-branded games include Cleopatra, Treasures of Troy, and Wolf Run; examples of newer titles are Apollo Rising and Wishwood. Online versions of classic IGT casino slots include Double Diamond and Triple Diamond.

IGT has retained the retro feel of older casino slot games in the online versions, keeping them true to the originals. Newer online video slot titles from IGT are modern, high-quality games with crisp, vibrant graphics and appealing features.

Needless to say, if you have visited a casino anytime during the last decade, then you have most likely played at least one IGT slot machine. Below is a complete list of all slot machines made by IGT.

IGT Progressive Slots

As one of the world’s largest electronic gaming companies, IGT has slot machines in virtually every US casino. This has allowed them to offer progressive jackpots on some of their slot games. For example, the progressive jackpot on Wheel of Fortune machines are often networked with other casinos in the same market (or state). States like NevadaNew Jersey, and South Dakota allow the networking of Wheel of Fortune and other progressive games, such as IGT’s Megabucks.

IGT Video Poker Machines

IGT pioneered video poker games in the world of land-based casinos, and their land-based Game King video poker games boast a 90 percent market share. The online versions of Game King, Match Times, and Ultimate X Poker games translate the familiar brand, look, and feel of casino video poker terminals to the online world for an authentic “old school” video poker experience.

Jacks or Better is the game that a majority of video poker variants are based on, and consequently they all have similar strategies. Below is a list of games owned by IGT, which are all derived from the original Jacks or Better. These are common games that can be found on Game King machines; the most popular video poker devices in the world.

  • Game King Jacks or Better – 99.5% RTP
  • Game King Deuces Wild –
  • Game King Bonus Poker – 99.1% RTP – Offers bigger payouts for quad aces, 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s compared to Jacks or Better.
  • Game King Double Bonus Poker – 99.1% RTP – Offers 2x payouts of Bonus Poker on all quads with increased jackpots for four aces, 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s. In exchange for these higher payouts, two pair pays half of its normal amount.
  • Game King Double Double Bonus Poker – 98.9% – 99.5% RTP – Offers similar to Double Bonus, except that there are increased jackpots for quad aces, 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s when one of these cards is also the kicker.
  • Game King Triple Double Bonus – Four aces with 2, 3, or 4 kicker pays the same as a royal flush. The catch is that full house and flush returns are much lower to make up for this.
  • Game King Bonus Poker Deluxe – All four of a kind pay 80 credits per coin, however two pair returns even money.
  • Match Times Pay Bonus Poker
  • Match Times Pay Double Bonus Poker
  • Match Times Pay Double Double Bonus Poker
  • Match Times Pay Jacks or Better
  • Triple Play Draw Poker Multi-Hand – 97.29% RTP
  • Ultimate X Poker (Triple Play / Five Play / Ten Play)

Electronic Table Games

IGT distributes three virtual table game machines; Enchanted Blackjack, Golden Baccarat, and Roulette Revolution. While they are not nearly as popular as their slot machines or video poker games, IGT electronic table games are still featured in a large number of casinos around the world.

IGT Roulette Games

We were unable to find a definitive list or confirmed number of real money roulette games offered by IGT. However, there are four different roulette games featured on the company’s website – roulette, Double Bonus Spin Roulette, Triple Bonus Spin Roulette, and Three Wheel Roulette.

IGT roulette games feature convenient betting pattern options like splits and dragon bets, a spin history billboard, and the ability to save betting patterns. Like the company’s other table games, the graphics and gameplay are solid, but the audio is lacking and changing chip denominations can be cumbersome.

IGT openly publishes the theoretical payback percentages for their online casino titles, including roulette games. The RTP for their Double Bonus Spin and Triple Bonus Spin roulette is higher than standard European and French roulette games at over 98 percent. These are double zero games, with the addition of a unique yellow zero bonus pocket that is 50 percent larger than the other pockets on the wheel to increase the chances of hitting it. Side bets on the yellow bonus pocket can pay up to 1200x your bet.

IGT’s Three Wheel Roulette game also offers a side bet that pays up to 1200x. Instead of three independent wheels featured in other multi-wheel online roulette games, three roulette wheels spin inside of each other to create different stacked number combinations for the side bet game.

IGT roulette games and payback percentages:

  • Roulette – 97.2% RTP
  • Three Wheel Roulette – 97.29%
  • Double Bonus Spin Roulette – 98% RTP
  • Triple Bonus Spin Roulette – 98.11% RTP

IGT Blackjack

We were unable to find a definitive list or confirmed number of IGT blackjack games online. There is currently only one blackjack game featured on the IGT site, which is standard blackjack.

The graphics are solid – not as sophisticated as those seen in games made by the most cutting-edge developers, but more advanced than other standard games on the market. Chip values range from $1 up to a generous $1,000. A Turbo Play mode can be enabled for fast dealer action. The sound effects are basic, and there are no background music options. It can also be awkward to click on the chips to change denominations before placing your bets instead of simply dragging and dropping the chips you want to play with. Overall, the game is decent, and the rules are fair.

IGT blackjack games and payback percentages:

  • Blackjack – 99.6% RTP

IGT in Online Gaming

IGT acquired WagerWorks in 2005. This allowed it to enter the online gaming market. It operates many online casinos in regulated markets in Europe.

IGT acquired Entraction in 2011. This was an online poker platform. This was possibly the worst acquisition in the company’s history. It left many markets due to the lack of regulation. The Entraction Network eventually failed and ceased operations due to a lack of players and revenue. The software was never used in the United States, a market where the online poker platform was presumably purchased to enter.

IGT spreads online casino games in New Jersey through distributor agreements. Online games include its proprietary slot titles, Game King video poker, blackjack, and roulette.

Mobile Casino Games

PlayAnywhere is IGT’s online and mobile casino games collection. All new IGT casino games are developed in HTML5 – they can be played on any device and platform, including tablets and mobile, on Windows, iOS, and Android devices. The company’s HTML5 games are all instant play, responsive, and optimized for high-quality gameplay on any device.

Earlier IGT mobile games needed improvement, and both players and the industry have taken notice of the upgrades and changes the company has made to their mobile offerings. IGT even claimed the Best User Experience in Mobile award at the International Gaming Awards (IGA) in 2016.

Live Dealer Games

We were unable to find any verifiable information about online live casino games offered at online casinos by IGT. The company does offer Electronic Table Games (ETGs), which are physical kiosk terminals in casinos where players can play live table games. Land-based casino players can also play ETGs via mobile devices using IGT’s PlaySpot system that connects mobile players to the physical casino they are playing in. Examples of IGT’s Dynasty Electronic Table Games include live blackjack, sic bo, baccarat, single zero roulette, and double zero roulette.

GLI’s gaming compliance audits for IGT use comprehensive specifications set forth by the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner’s Remote Technical and Operating Standards, v.1.1.0, 20 September 2012. Detailed results of a recent audit performed by GLI on IGT’s RNG dated February 22, 2017, can be seen here.

IGT licenses

International Game Technology PLC holds over 400 gambling licenses and more than 20 online gaming licenses worldwide.

Examples include licenses from the Nevada Gaming Commission in the United States, the AAMS (Amministrazione Autonoma dei Monopoli di Stato – Autonomous Administration of the State Monopolies) in Italy, and the Gambling Commission in the United Kingdom (Gambling Commission license number 41794) for both remote gambling (online gambling) and non-remote gaming services (land-based casinos and gaming venues).

IGT's History

IGT’s history is the combined history of three different companies – Lottomatica, GTECH, and IGT, that have merged to create the company now known as IGT (International Game Technology PLC).

Lottomatica acquired GTECH in 2006, keeping the name GTECH for the parent company, creating the largest lottery company worldwide. GTECH then acquired IGT in 2015 and kept the name IGT for the parent company. IGT PLC became the largest end-to-end gaming company in the world.

Before the merger with GTECH, IGT was a major player in the land-based casino space. Founded as A-1 Supply in Nevada in 1975, the name was changed to International Game Technology (IGT) in 1981. IGT was a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange and was listed on the S&P 500.

Known for casino slot machine development and production, IGT also pioneered numerous casino standards, including video poker games, frequent player programs, and the automated EZ Pay Ticket-In, Ticket-Out (TITO) casino payment system. IGT released the Game King series in 1996 – today, Game King video poker games boast over 90 percent market share in North America. The Wheel of Fortune progressive slot machine was also released in 1996, and it is still one of the most popular slot machines in casinos today.

In 2000, IGT produced the company’s one millionth casino slot machine, one of their flagship Red White & Blue games, and its two millionth slot machine was created in 2010. In 2010, the company launched IGT Interactive to enter the online casino space and acquired companies including WagerWorks and Double Down Interactive to boost their online casino presence.

Today, the combined companies of Lottomatica, GTECH, and IGT maintain their respective headquarters and business practices under the umbrella of International Game Technology PLC (IGT), which is headquartered in the United Kingdom.

Ticket In/Ticket Out

The original ticket in/ticket out slot payment processing system was invented by IGT under the EZ Pay name. This allowed casinos to close hard-count rooms where coins used to be processed. This new system allowed cash to go to the bank or into tills as bills. The process made it easier for players to move from one machine to another and greatly reduce the number of slot attendants needed. It also allowed for multiple denomination machines.

IGT—Multi-Chance Jackpots™

Three of IGT’s most iconic themes come to life in a new way in Multi-Chance Jackpots™ featuring IGT Hall of Fame Video Slots. In this nostalgic gaming experience, players will enjoy combined base game and bonus elements from the company’s legacy library including Kitty Glitter®, Stinkin’ Rich® and Wolf Run®. Best suited for those seeking low-denomination play, this 5-reel, 30-payline game is definitely fame-worthy.

In the Free Games Bonus Round, players spin a virtual wheel, where they are awarded a number of free games. These free games are identical to the base game experience found in Kitty Glitter, Stinkin’ Rich or Wolf Run and can lead to big payouts. Players who enter the Multi-Chance Jackpots feature have the potential to win up to three progressives on a single base game spin, encouraging them to bet up.
