Las Olas Casino at Hotel Riu Guanacaste Review
Hotel Riu Guanacaste is one of two hotels that you will find in the same resort complex that is fenced off from the rest of Guanacaste. Inside of this resort complex is Las Olas Casino as well as a nightclub, both of which are within walking distance from Hotel Riu Guanacaste. The hotel is owned by Riu which is a multinational hospitality company that manages a portfolio of lodging establishments on 3 different continents including Africa, America, and Asia.
Your best bet to get into Costa Rica is to fly into the country using one of the major airline services that offer flights directly into Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport. From Guanacaste, you must rent a car to travel to the resort complex. Alternatively you can make use of Hotel Riu’s airport shuttle service.
Las Olas Casino at Hotel Riu Guanacaste
Las Olas Casino is not very large by Las Vegas casino standards but it does feature a large enough variety of games along with free drinks for active gamblers to keep guests entertained. All games, including slot machines, accept US Dollars only and the casino is open daily (except for certain public holidays like Good Friday) from 8 PM until 3:30 AM.
If the games are not enough to keep you occupied, they also show live sports for free on the many TVs spread throughout the casino. On top of this, there is live music most nights of the week.
If you fancy yourself a high roller then it is worth mentioning that Las Olas Casino hosts Texas Hold‘em poker tournaments every Friday and Sunday. The poker tournament prizes have been known to reach up to around $1,500 per game with buy-ins as low as $20.
Table Games at Las Olas Casino
There are only a handful of table games available at Las Olas Casino. This includes a $10, 6-deck blackjack table with a Perfect Pairs side bet, which is also a popular bonus bet offered in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
There is 1 American Roulette table offered at Las Olas Casino which has double zeroes. There is also an electronic roulette area with both a single zero and double zero wheel.
You can play Texas Hold‘em on Friday and Sunday nights when Las Olas Casino hosts cash tournaments starting at 8 PM. Registration remains open until about 8:20 PM. Be warned that these tournaments are based strictly on demand and they will cancel a tournament without prior notice if there are not enough participants.
Slots and Video Poker at Las Olas Casino
What Casino Los Olas lacks in table games it more than makes up for in slot machines, however, there are no video poker machines.
There is over 150 slot machines with updated themes that are a mix of modern multi-line machines accepting multiple coin bets, classic machines and the video versions of these “reel” slot machines (such as lucky 7’s). The slot machines accept coin denominations of $0.25, $0.50 and $1.
There are two progressive jackpots – one that links the multi-line and video reel machines and one that links the classic machines. The jackpots are called Silver Jackpot and Gold Jackpot and have a cash prize of $1,000 and $1,500 respectively at the time of this review.
