Just outside the city of San Jose in Costa Rica, along the Route 27 highway, you will find Grand Casino Escazú at Sheraton Hotel. It is owned and operated by the International Group of Gaming Resorts (IGGR) who operate a variety of casino resorts throughout South America, Northern Africa, and Europe. Their partnership with Marriott International (the owners of Sheraton Hotels) allowed them to open this property.
The hotel and Grand Casino Escazú both fall under the San Rafael suburb of the province of San Jose. It is just 20 km away from Juan Santamaria International Airport, which is just about a 30-minute drive. The airport has both taxis and car rental services available. Once you arrive at Sheraton Hotel, there is self-service and valet parking available.
Grand Casino Escazú is just meters away from the nearby Multiplaza Escazú; one of the biggest shopping centers in Costa Rica. Other popular tourist destinations are a bit further away and include Costa Rica’s famous black sand beaches formed by volcanoes and their many national parks.

Grand Casino at Sheraton Hotel Escazú

The casino is located on the second floor of the Sheraton Hotel and has ample space to fit their 11 table games and 160 electronic machines. The casino is brightly lit with red carpets, neon ceilings, and roof mirrors. The table games are found at the back of the main gaming area after walking past the slot machines. Grand Casino is open 24/7 but closes table games in the late morning around 5 AM before re-opening them in the afternoon at 6 PM.
Grand Casino Escazú’s most popular attractions are their poker tournaments. These happen regularly and allow guests to get involved in higher stakes gambling. Other amenities on offer are their Joker Restaurant, serving drinks and meals to guests, as well as the Grand Rewards Program, which allows guests to earn credits for playing. Points earned from the Gran Rewards Program can then be redeemed at the restaurant, Sheraton Hotel, and other nearby affiliated stores.
The only games that will be able to satisfy high rollers are poker tournaments because of their minimum buy-ins and no limit maximums. As for normal table games, the bets have been capped at $25 per hand.

Table Games at Grand Casino Escazú

The 11 table games available at Grand Casino Escazú include canasta, rummy, baccarat, poker, and tute; however, the casino does not have a roulette table nor does it offer blackjack, which is pretty unusual. If you want to play Blackjack, however, there are some electronic blackjack machines.
Canasta and rummy are two of the most unique table games at Grand Casino Escazú and are rarely found at other casinos in Costa Rica. Tute is another oddity, but it is popular in the regional casinos here. It is a card game that originated in Spain and made its way over with the Spanish influence of Costs Rica. There are two Tute tables here if you fancy something a little different from the norm.
More well-known games are Punto Banco Baccarat which has 2 tables. Plus, you will find poker here, which is divided into the normal, cash game tables and tournament tables. Normal tables are located with the other table games and allow gamblers to play against the house in the form of Pai Gow and Three Card Poker.
The poker tournament tables feature Texas Hold‘Em and Omaha.
