Coco Beach Hotel & Casino
Coco Beach Hotel and Casino is situated in the small beach town of Playas del Coco in northwestern Costa Rica (known locally as “El Coco”). The area is well-known for its party scene and laid-back atmosphere. The Hotel and Casino could not be located in a better place, as it is literally in the center of everything that goes on in the area.
From Liberia Airport Coco Beach Hotel and Casino is a short 30-minute drive, which will cost around $50 – $80 by taxi. You can pick up a taxi at the airport or hire a car. If you decide you want to rent a car for just a day here and there, the hotel will offer a discount rate and you can use the casino hotel parking or as many others do, park on the road outside if the car park is full.
There are plenty of nearby attractions. The hotel and casino are within 1 mile of the Haras del Mar Equestrian Centre and Coco Beach; while it is under 3 miles from Ocotal Beach. The information desk at the hotel and casino will be able to arrange a trip to any of these place as well as fishing trips, canopy rides, scuba diving, along with several other water-sports. For golfers, there is the 18-hole Playa Conchal’s Garra de Leon golf course.
Dress code to enter the hotel and casino is casual, but you must wear shoes in the casino. The legal age for both drinking and gaming in Costa Rica is 18 years of age, although if you are under age and with someone older, they may not even check you. Nonetheless, it is worth having ID on you in case you are asked to prove your age.
Casino at Coco Beach Hotel
The casino is open daily from 2 PM to 2 AM, and the gaming floor is relatively small at only 2,750 square feet. Though small, it has recently been remodeled to a very high standard. Everything inside of the casino is brand new – including the tables and many of the slot machines.
You will find that casino patrons range from those staying at the hotel and tourists that have popped in to play here to locals that live nearby. The casino and hotel are often busy – especially during the evenings and on weekends – because it is situated in the center of an area with a lively nightlife.
Table Games at Coco Beach Casino
On the casino floor, there are 7 tables with 3 of those tables hosting blackjack, making it the most popular game at the casino among both locals and US tourists.
Another well-known table game here is poker in which you will pitch your skills versus the house. Aside from blackjack and poker, the remaining 2 table games are Costa Rican favorites that rarely found in the US or anywhere else in the world for that matter.
Canasta is a type of roulette played at Coco Beach Casino and there is 1 table; while another popular game is Rommy. As both of these table games are similar to roulette and blackjack, the rules are relatively easy to pick up by new players and they are a great way to get familiar with locals.

Fans of slots will find a mixture of video reel and classic machines. There are around 50 slots overall with no video poker available. Classic slots offer 3 pay lines; while video slots give players the chance to bet 9, 15, 20, and 25 pay lines with multiple coin bets on each line. This price includes free WiFi, coffee/tea makers, TV, hairdryers, free toiletries and breakfast is included. Dry cleaning is available to guests and safes are in certain rooms. Also, it is worth noting that this is an entirely smoking-free hotel.
Restaurants at Coco Beach Hotel & Casino
Casa del Mar is a casual dining area, just off the hotel lobby and close to the pool. Wooden floors, thatched roof and colourfully decorated tables make this a fun place to eat. The menu comprises seafood and traditional Mediterranean foods, while the breakfast is a selection of fruit, toast, and coffee. You can pay an extra $3 to upgrade to a cooked breakfast if you choose.
Several nights a week you will find that there is live music out on the terrace, and there is a happy hour every night at the bar. The bar is a very popular spot for visitors and locals gather here to watch popular sports games on television. While the bar is quite small, there are several flat-screen televisions on the walls and a great menu for appetisers along with ice cold beer.
