2018 Pocono 400 NASCAR Betting Odds

As has often been a theme so far in this 2018 Nascar campaign, rain is threatening the fun at Pocono this Sunday, June 3rd. Though the forecast is still not set in stone, it seems as though each passing hour brings with it an increased chance of rain on Sunday. Despite that, the drivers are going to prepare for the checkered flag to fly come 2pm.

If you know anything about racing betting, you know that Pocono is one of the most unique tracks on the Nascar circuit, featuring a strange triangular shape that is as interesting as it is difficult to navigate; especially for 400 miles. Since 2012, the length of this race was shortened by 100 miles to the currently run 400 mile long race. To prove just how difficult it is to win at Pocono, only four active drivers have recorded more than a single win at the track. Of those four, two of them sit near the top of the points standings at the moment (Kurt Busch in 6th and Denny Hamlin in 7th). Kevin Harvick, who is third in the standings and has won five races so far this year, posted second place finishes in both installments of the Pocono race last year and will be looking to add a sixth win to his 2018 tally.

The Favorites

Kevin Harvick (+350)

When you consider his form this year, you will be hard-pressed to find a single week this season where Harvick will not be at or near the top of the favorites list. Though he is coming off a 40th place finish in North Carolina, Harvick has been near success at Pocono five times out of the last six times he has raced there. In those six races, Harvick has finished second on three occasions, has finished fourth once, and ninth another time. As has been the case all season long, it is going to be tough to pick anyone besides Harvick to come out on top when the dust settles Sunday evening.

Kyle Busch (+400)

Though it is Kyle Busch’s brother, Kurt, who has had the most historical success at Pocono, the younger Busch is currently leading the points standings and seems to emit a positive performance week in and week out regardless where he is racing. Busch actually won the latter race at Pocono in 2017 and finished ninth in the race previous to that, earlier in the season. After coming off a win last week in North Carolina, he and his team will be liking their chances of not only winning, but winning two in a row at the track and matching his brother’s legacy. It will be intriguing to see if he is able to pull it off.

WCI Dark Horses

Denny Hamlin (+1100)

Admittedly, it has been quite a few years since the last time Denny Hamlin graced Victory Lane at Pocono (2010), but the driver from outside of Richmond, Virginia seems to always put on a solid showing when he is there. Last year he posted finishes of 12th and fourth in each of the two races, and was a contender until the final laps in the latter of the two. Hamlin has yet to get a win this year and will be itching for that to change, especially after finishing third at Daytona, Richmond, and Charlotte already this year. His starting position will play a big role in where he finishes, but we would be remiss to count Hamlin out.

Kyle Larson (+800)

Apart from this 33rd place finish at the second installment of Pocono in 2017, Larson has been a historically solid runner at this track. Through his first four full years on Nascar’s top circuit, he has finished outside of the top 12 only once, and that was in the aforementioned race last year. So far this year Larson has finished second twice, third once, and fourth once, so he, like Hamlin, is looking to get over the hump and into Victory Lane. Whether or not he has what it takes, however, will be left for him to decide.
